Coco Hydro by Big Tree Farms

tWe all know hydration is important. Hydration can make or break a workout or a race. It can mean the difference between feeling great and feeling like you just can't run another step. March Runnerbox subscribers are getting to try out Coco Hydro from Big Tree Farms. Coco Hydro is pure coconut water that's been dehydrated and vacuum sealed in a pouch. Simply add Coco Hydro to your water and you instantly get the benefits of coconut water without the extra cost, packaging, and weight. One bag of Coco Hydro is the equivalent of the water from 25 coconuts. We'd have to guess carrying around one bag of Coco Hydro is easier than carrying 25 coconuts. Simpy put, Coco Hydro is hydration, amplified. Coco Hydro is the perfect travel companion. Bring it along in your carry-on and you don't have to worry about liquid restrictions. Once you get through security, purchase a plain bottle of water and add your Coco Hydro for a refreshing change of pace. Each serving of Coco Hydro contains five essential electrolytes, naturally: Potassium, Calcium, Sodium, Manganese and Magnesium. This isn't a formula cooked up in a lab. It's pure coconut water. It's also soy and gluten-free and made from organic coconuts. Sure, it's good for you...but how does it taste? Well, it tastes like coconut water. It doesn't taste like a powered drink. It dilutes into water easily, with no chalky residue and without any aftertaste. If you didn't know any better, you'd think you were drinking a bottle of coconut water from the store. It's also easy on the GI system (which we all know is a priority for most runners.) Coco Hydro comes in a variety of flavors including Original, Pineapple, and Pomegranate Raspberry. If you're a coconut water fan or are looking to take your hydration plan to the next level, you definitely want to give Coco Hydro a try. You'll love the great flavor and you'll appreciate the reduced waste and costs. As always, we test products before the make it into your Runnerbox. Coco Hydro was definitely runner tested and runner approved. Subscribers, don't forget to use your exclusive discount code, found on your green box insert for 20% your purchase!

The Runch: Running During Your Lunch and Why We Love It

With the winter weather still lingering around in most parts of the country, it's hard to find a time to get out and run when it's dark and cold in the mornings, especially when you're facing ice and snow on the roads and sidewalks. So when can you squeeze in that daily run? Well, we think lunch is the perfect time to lace up your shoes and hit the pavement (or treadmill) for a run. "Runch" (run lunches) are gaining popularity and here are three simple reasons we're big fans of the runch: 1. Productivity: Studies show that people who workout during the work day improve productivity in the second half of the day, while those who do not, tend to fall off after lunch. A run helps to get your blood flowing, not only to your legs, but to your brain. Your exercise-induced endorphins improve your mood. And we all know how great fresh air can feel when you've been cooped up in an office all morning. It's a win for you and for your employer. 2. Better Work Environment: Runches are a great way to bond with your coworkers. Have a big project due and stuck on the next step? Going out for a run and talking out ideas in a fresh environment may be the key. Many employers are now offering incentives for employees who exercise and even offer team challenges or host their own 5k events. Talk to your employer about creating a charity team for an upcoming race and make it an office-wide affair! 3. Getting it Done: Sometimes, it's the only way to get a run done. Let's face it- we all have a million obligations between work and family and sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day. A lunch run is the perfect place to squeeze in a few miles when you couldn't make it out for that morning run or know the treadmill isn't in your plans that night. You can get 3-4 miles in without feeling like you're missing out on things at home. Lunch runs are especially great for those who travel a lot for work. Running during the day can also be a safer alternative than darker, early morning runs in an unfamiliar area. Be sure to check with your hotel for their recommended routes and where to avoid. So get out there and runch! Just remember to bring a good snack for before and a recovery snack for after (may we suggest keeping some Runnerbox items stashed in your desk?), some wet wipes, deodorant, and dry shampoo if your place of employment doesn't have shower facilities. Your co-workers will thank you. Do you runch? Leave a comment and let us know!

Hylands and Another Mother Runner: Why We Run

It's February, the month of love, and we here at Runnerbox love mother runners. In fact, we are mother runners, as are several of our Runnerbox Ambassadors. Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea wrote the book on mother runners...literally. They're the names behind the books Run Like a Mother and Train Like a Mother, and the website Another Mother Runner. They've joined the tribes of mother runners from all over the world and created a place where fellow mothers can get support, training advice, and share stories of triumphs and tragedies (and TMI on Tuesdays). Another Mother Runner teamed up with Hyland's (you may remember Hyland's Natural Leg Cramps from your Runnerbox) to put together a fabulous video featuring the Bad Ass Mother Runner Club from Southern California. The premise? Share your running story with the world, in six words or less. We think it's pretty incredible. Check it out for yourself.     If you could describe YOUR running story in six words or less, what would it say? Leave a comment below to share your story.  Be sure to check out Another Mother Runner on Facebook and Twitter, too. You can also download the Another Mother Runner Podcast for your next run.

February- National Cherry Month!

Not only does February belong to Valentine's Day...but it is also National Cherry Month! RunnerBox makes it's home in Michigan where we grow an abundance of delicious cherries. December/January boxes contained dried cherries from Cherry Bay Orchards in Traverse City, MI. We hope you enjoyed them! We are fans not only because they taste so good, but because they have big benefits for runners and all athletes. Cherries aid in muscle recovery due to the anthocyanins, which are anti-inflammatory. Anthocyanins are the powerful antioxidants which give the deep red color to the fruit. These anti-inflammatory properties aid in muscle recovery, in turn less post run muscle and joint pain. Cherries contain melatonin which help regulate the sleep cycle. Runners need sleep! Cherries are "good carbs", a terrific pre or post run snack. Dried, you can throw them in your pocket or running belt. The concentrate is easy to mix into liquid. We hope all of the subscribers enjoyed your Michigan cherries! They are delicious as is, in oatmeal, tossed into trail mix, or baked into breads, energy bars or cookies. You can find wonderful recipes at www.cherrybayorchards.com/lifestyle/recipes.html

Read on to learn more about Brian, and don't forget to check out his site for an exclusive Ambassador discount code! Brian, Sacramento Valley, CA Tell us a little about your personal running journey: I have been running this time for 3.5 years. I ran a bit in high school, and did some running in college, but nothing like this. I run because a) it is something I am good at, b) it allows me to stay in shape without a gym, and c) I can do it anywhere. I love the camradere of runners, always supportive, no matter your speed or ability. I also like that I can take some time for myself. Your favorite race distance and why: I really like the half marathon distance. It is a distance that I can maintain fairly easily, it doesn't take too much time of my day (I am consistently below 2 hrs), and the races are easy to find. Also, there are so many varieties of halves from flat to trail. What's one race on your bucket list? I completed my main bucket race of 15 years at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. My new bucket race is the Pikes Peak marathon. It sounds like an amazing challenge that I want to say I've done Three words that describe your running philosophy: Just a half What do you love most about Runnerbox?
