Hylands and Another Mother Runner: Why We Run

It's February, the month of love, and we here at Runnerbox love mother runners. In fact, we are mother runners, as are several of our Runnerbox Ambassadors. Dimity McDowell and Sarah Bowen Shea wrote the book on mother runners...literally. They're the names behind the books Run Like a Mother and Train Like a Mother, and the website Another Mother Runner. They've joined the tribes of mother runners from all over the world and created a place where fellow mothers can get support, training advice, and share stories of triumphs and tragedies (and TMI on Tuesdays). Another Mother Runner teamed up with Hyland's (you may remember Hyland's Natural Leg Cramps from your Runnerbox) to put together a fabulous video featuring the Bad Ass Mother Runner Club from Southern California. The premise? Share your running story with the world, in six words or less. We think it's pretty incredible. Check it out for yourself.     If you could describe YOUR running story in six words or less, what would it say? Leave a comment below to share your story.  Be sure to check out Another Mother Runner on Facebook and Twitter, too. You can also download the Another Mother Runner Podcast for your next run.

February- National Cherry Month!

Not only does February belong to Valentine's Day...but it is also National Cherry Month! RunnerBox makes it's home in Michigan where we grow an abundance of delicious cherries. December/January boxes contained dried cherries from Cherry Bay Orchards in Traverse City, MI. We hope you enjoyed them! We are fans not only because they taste so good, but because they have big benefits for runners and all athletes. Cherries aid in muscle recovery due to the anthocyanins, which are anti-inflammatory. Anthocyanins are the powerful antioxidants which give the deep red color to the fruit. These anti-inflammatory properties aid in muscle recovery, in turn less post run muscle and joint pain. Cherries contain melatonin which help regulate the sleep cycle. Runners need sleep! Cherries are "good carbs", a terrific pre or post run snack. Dried, you can throw them in your pocket or running belt. The concentrate is easy to mix into liquid. We hope all of the subscribers enjoyed your Michigan cherries! They are delicious as is, in oatmeal, tossed into trail mix, or baked into breads, energy bars or cookies. You can find wonderful recipes at www.cherrybayorchards.com/lifestyle/recipes.html

Meet Our Ambassadors: Brian

Today, we're introducing you to our Ambassador, Brian, but you can call him Dashing Dad. Read on to learn more about Brian, and don't forget to check out his site for an exclusive Ambassador discount code! Brian, Sacramento Valley, CA Tell us a little about your personal running journey: I have been running this time for 3.5 years. I ran a bit in high school, and did some running in college, but nothing like this. I run because a) it is something I am good at, b) it allows me to stay in shape without a gym, and c) I can do it anywhere. I love the camradere of runners, always supportive, no matter your speed or ability. I also like that I can take some time for myself. Your favorite race distance and why: I really like the half marathon distance. It is a distance that I can maintain fairly easily, it doesn't take too much time of my day (I am consistently below 2 hrs), and the races are easy to find. Also, there are so many varieties of halves from flat to trail. What's one race on your bucket list? I completed my main bucket race of 15 years at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. My new bucket race is the Pikes Peak marathon. It sounds like an amazing challenge that I want to say I've done Three words that describe your running philosophy: Just a half What do you love most about Runnerbox? I like the fact that I can try new things with Runnerbox, and it is a nice treat when the box shows up at my door. It's like my birthday is every other month. Meet Our Ambassadors: Megan

We hope you've been having fun meeting our Runnerbox Ambassadors! Today, you'll meet Megan and find out why we think she's pretty amazing.   Megan, 32, Washington DC area Tell us a little about your personal running journey: I picked up running on a bit of a whim. I never thought I could do it, but while in law school, I learned about the Couch to 5K program and I decided to give it a shot. And the rest is history. I didn't realize how much I loved running until I got sick and there was a chance I would have to give it up. That was the moment that I knew I was a runner. What is your favorite race distance? I love the half marathon distance. It's not an easy distance, but it's a challenge that I can train for using a reasonable schedule. What's one race on your bucket list? I dream of doing a half marathon in all 50 states, so someday, I hope to get to Alaska to run a half marathon there. Three words that describe your running philosophy: Do YOUR best. What do you love most about Runnerbox? Runnerbox has been a great way to discover new products in a fun package. So much of the mail I get is junk mail or bills. Meet Our Ambassadors: Allie - Fuel Goods

Meet Our Ambassadors: Allie

Happy New Year Runnerbox friends! We're kicking off the New Year by introducing you to another of our Runnerbox Ambassadors. Allie, 38, Connecticut Tell us a little about your personal running journey: I started running in 2000 when I broke-up with a longtime boyfriend. It started as three miles, with my dog, around the block. I woke-up early and my running partner was ready to go! I began to look forward to those runs and eventually they became longer and a few months later I signed up for my first race. In the 13 years since I have run five marathons (including Boston) with a PR of 3:30 and countless other road races of every distance. After my twin boys were born in 2009 I started getting into Triathlons and Duathlons. I most recently competed in the National Duathlon Championship in Tucson, AZ where I qualified to represent the USA in Spain at the World Championship in June 2014. I guess you could say running changed my life! What's your favorite race distance and why? My favorite is the half-marathon. I can train for it, no matter how little time I have and it's just long enough to really get into a good pace and challenge yourself. I love it and try to run as many as I can! What's one race on your bucket list? There's so many! I guess if I had to pick just one it would be the Big Sur marathon. I'm from the East Coast and I would love to travel there and be transported to a whole new world! Give us three words that describe your running philosophy: Consistency, determination and FUN! What do you love most about Runnerbox? Everything! I have to say I was surprised that I actually enjoyed everything in the box. The food was the best for me...and having it delivered right to my door is huge since I have zero time! Where can we find you online? Facebook

Meet Our Ambassadors: Michelle - Fuel Goods

Meet Our Ambassadors: Michelle

Today, we're introducing you to Michelle, one of our amazing Runnerbox Ambassadors. Be sure to check out her site for an exclusive discount code and stay tuned as we introduce you to the rest of our Ambassadors.     Michelle, 42, Rhode Island Tell us a little about your personal running journey: I run because it's part of who I am. When I became a mom, running changed from being something that I did for exercise to being something that gave me an identity other than mommy. I love my kids to pieces, but I treasure the solitude I get on a solo run, and the companionship I get when I run with friends. Running is my sanity and my escape, and an opportunity for me to have goals and accomplish things I never thought possible. What's your favorite race distance and why? Half-marathon - long enough to be a true test of endurance, but short enough that you can run fast! What's one race on your bucket list? Now that I've run Boston, I'm thinking NYC is going on the bucket list - hoping I can shave a few seconds off my half-marathon PR so I can qualify and don't have to wait out the lottery. Three words that describe your running philosophy: Never say never. What do you love most about Runnerbox? Very high-quality products, and such a wonderful variety, too. Opening a box feels like opening a customized running present! Where can we find you online? On Facebook and Twitter

KUTOA Health Bars

Here at Runnerbox, we love featuring companies who give back. December and January subscribers are being introduced to KUTOA Health Bars.  KUTOA translates to "to give" in Swahili and that's exactly what KUTOA does- they give. For each bar purchased, KUTOA gives a nutrition pack to a child. The children KUTOA helps might be across the globe or right in your neighborhood. A child dies from malnutrition every 6 seconds. KUTOA is determined to make an impact and they've sent over 200,000 meals to date. That's incredible. KUTOA bars are vegan, gluten-free, made with non-GMO ingredients, and you can understand and pronounce every ingredient on the label. Runnerbox subscribers are getting to try the Peanut Butter and Jelly bars in December and January. The bars are also available in flavors like Blueberry Almond, Cherry Cashew, and Chocolate Banana. They also offer Kid's Squares. Kids get the same nutritious, vegan, gluten-free product in a size and flavors perfect for little ones (or for moms like me who happen to sneak their kid's snacks every once in a while). The Peanut Butter and Jelly bar contains loads of Omega-3 and 6g of protein. It's the perfect snack on-the-go or fuel during marathon training when gels and other artificial products won't cut it. Subscribers: be sure to use your exclusive discount code to save 30% on your next KUTOA order. We think it would make a great stocking stuffer for everyone on your list! Be sure to check out all of our Ambassadors and their exclusive Runnerbox discount codes!      Name: Denise, 30, Southeast Michigan Tell us a little about your personal running journey: I started the Couch to 5K program in January 2012 and then eventually trained for a 10K and half-marathon. With each race, I kept challenging myself and after my first half-marathon, my new goal was to run a marathon before my 30th birthday! I did not take this training lightly and tried very hard not to miss my scheduled runs. I relied on the support from my Black Girls RUN! running group who motivated me to finish what I had started. I can now say that I am a marathoner and I'm training for my 2nd marathon in 2014! I truly love to run because it's a great way to get exercise outdoors while spending quality time with friends and even with my Dad and sister who just completed their first half-marathon in October! What is your favorite race distance and why: My favorite race distance is probably a 10K because it's the perfect amount of cardio my body needs to maintain my current level of fitness. What's one race on your bucket list? Walt Disney World Marathon Three words that describe your running philosophy: Determined. Journey. Happiness. What do you love most about Runnerbox? First, I love getting mail! I love that Runnerbox is packed with a variety of different products that I would have never experienced on my own! In fact, a lot of the bars and gels that I buy on a regular basis are because I was introduced to them through the Runnerbox. Where can we find you online?
